INFRASTRUCTURE & CONCRETE

UTEP Sun Bowl Parking Garage

El Paso, Texas

Client: University of Texas System

Description:
The building is a five level cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete structure with a drilled pier foundation system. A portion of the building is below existing grade and utilizes concrete retaining walls on the perimeter. The building has been designed in conformance to the “Bhutanese” style of architecture that is integral to the University of Texas – El Paso master plan. Tapered towers that manifest the “Bhutanese” theme house the stair and elevator components of the garage. EIFS based exterior finishes are consistent with the campus master plan and architectural style. The garage decks and structural components are natural concrete finish to avoid any maintenance burden. High tensile post-tensioned cable barriers are used on the perimeter of the structure as vehicle restraints. There are five stair towers at the perimeter of the structure, two of which have elevators. There is a pedestrian bridge at the northeast corner which provides the garage users direct access to the Sun Bowl sports complex.
