Franklin Mountain Aviation engaged Jordan Foster to construct its new Fixed Base Operator (FBO) facility at the El Paso International Airport. The cutting-edge design will provide the El Paso region a facility befitting its rising demand for private air travel. The project consists of a 10,000 square-foot terminal and a 23,000 square-foot hangar. The terminal building boasts an elaborate covered canopy, cantilevered toward the east, serving as a visual welcome to those traveling by air to the Sun City. The structural steel trusses supporting this canopy are substantial in nature and themselves are held aloft by 34-inch square columns which in turn sit atop eight concrete and steel reinforced drilled caissons. These columns serve to transfer the significant El Paso wind loads to the earth below. The interior of the terminal will offer conference rooms, a grab-and-go café, relaxation spaces, a flight planning area, and a crew lounge for the flight staff. The interior design is sleek and somewhat minimal, yet rich in texture. It includes limestone tile, quartz countertops, as well as wood flooring and wall panels. The building is sure to provide travelers an impactful first impression and leave them with a sense of professional luxury.
