Strong Teams Aren’t Only Built on the Jobsite
How shared experiences beyond the jobsite build the trust, connection and camaraderie that strong construction teams rely on.
Before the race, they were clean.
Afterward? Not so much…

Earlier this month, a group of Jordan Foster Construction employees and their family members decided to spend their Saturday doing something a little different: tackling the Muddy Dash together.
This wasn’t a company-sponsored event or organized team-building exercise. It was simply a group of coworkers who wanted to do something fun together.
And maybe that’s what makes it such a good example of teamwork.
In construction, we talk a lot about building strong teams. Usually, that conversation centers around the jobsite—communication, coordination, accountability and everyone working toward the same goal.
But the relationships that make those things possible aren’t built exclusively during meetings or project planning sessions.
They’re built through shared experiences.
They’re built when people challenge each other, laugh together, compete with each other and lend a hand when someone needs it. Sometimes, apparently, they’re even built while crawling through mud.
For the JFC crew, there was certainly some friendly competition. Hugo Peña earned bragging rights as the first member of the group to cross the finish line. But when the race was over, CDL Driver Alex Valdez was there with a water truck to help everyone wash off the evidence.

It was a small moment outside of work, but it reflects something important about successful construction teams.
Great projects require people who know how to work alongside one another. People who communicate. People who trust each other. People who step up when something needs to be done. And people who can enjoy the process together, even when things get messy.
Those relationships don’t begin and end at the jobsite.
Sometimes, the strongest teams are simply made up of people who genuinely enjoy being a team.
Judging by the before-and-after photos, this group certainly does.
And they’re already planning to do it again next year.
