In this dual role, Asma will lead critical mental health awareness initiatives across the organization.

Health & Wellness Programs Improve Employee Safety and Productivity

The construction industry has historically been challenged in managing the harsh realities of high stress, long hours, and physical demands on employees. It also faces some of the highest suicide rates and substance use issues across U.S. industries. These factors highlight the critical need for a proactive wellness culture that prioritizes mental and physical safety equally.

As Mental Wellness Manager, Asma’s priority will be to continue raising awareness, educating, and developing an environment where employees are well prepared to respond well to crises, and foster preventative health practices. Her leadership aims to normalize mental health care, break down stigma, and create a balanced approach to wellness on and off the jobsite. Asma’s extensive background in EHS operations and her deep commitment to her colleagues’ health make her uniquely qualified for this new role.

Four Areas of Focus Will Keep JFC on the Forefront of Industry Best Practices

Mental Health and Emotional Well-Being

The Mental Wellness Manager will lead the development and implementation of mental health awareness programs and campaigns across the organization. These initiatives aim to create an open, supportive environment where employees feel comfortable discussing mental health issues, helping to reduce stigma and encourage seeking support when needed.

An important innovation will be organizing toolbox talks and safety stand-downs to address mental health challenges such as suicide prevention, job burnout, and substance misuse. These discussions will become a regular and integral part of the company’s safety culture, ensuring mental health is treated equally to physical safety.

The Mental Wellness Manager will also actively promote Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) and other available company resources, ensuring employees know where to turn for support without fear of judgment.

Physical Health Programs in Partnership with EHS

In collaboration with the EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) department, the Mental Wellness Manager will oversee continuing physical health initiatives, including promoting injury prevention through ergonomic awareness, stretch-and-flex routines, and other wellness practices to reduce on-the-job stress and injuries.

The Mental Wellness Manager will align wellness initiatives with existing safety protocols, such as introducing hydration programs during extreme heat and offering resources for physical fitness, nutrition, and general wellness. These initiatives provide a holistic approach to employee well-being that integrates physical and mental health.

Crisis Support and Response

The Mental Wellness Manager will provide crisis support to employees following serious incidents or traumatic events. The Mental Wellness Manager will help facilitate post-incident support, connecting employees to appropriate counseling or grief support services.

Additionally, the Mental Wellness Manager will support the team through trauma processing, ensuring affected individuals receive the proper care and attention during difficult times. Thoroughly processing trauma is crucial to helping employees navigate challenging situations and promoting healing within the organization.

Culture and Engagement

A significant focus of the Mental Wellness Manager will be to build on and further instill JFC’s culture of care throughout the organization. A culture that integrates mental wellness into the overall safety culture, ensuring that mental health and physical safety are equally prioritized in leadership development and day-to-day operations.

By cultivating a supportive and caring environment, the Mental Wellness Manager will help ensure that employees feel valued for their work performance and overall well-being as valued members of the JFC family. A caring environment also positively contributes to a more engaged and productive workforce committed to the company’s mission while prioritizing their health and safety.

Recognized Industry Leader to Join Growing Heavy-Highway Division in Central Texas

San Antonio, Texas – Jordan Foster Construction, a leading general contractor in Texas, is pleased to announce the hiring of Todd Henson as Operations Manager for the company’s Infrastructure Group in San Antonio. With more than 30 years of experience in heavy-highway construction, Todd brings a depth of knowledge in large-scale infrastructure and TxDOT projects across Texas to expand Jordan Foster’s operations statewide.

Todd will lead construction operations, including client engagement and requirements evaluation, project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation. He will coordinate extensively with project managers, engineers, architects, and field teams to ensure that project teams exceed client expectations.

John Goodrich, President of the Infrastructure Group at Jordan Foster Construction, remarks that Todd’s expertise will help drive the continued success and growth of the San Antonio office Infrastructure Group.

“We’re excited to have Todd join the team,” said John Goodrich. “His extensive experience in heavy-highway construction, especially in large-scale bridge projects, will be instrumental as we expand our operations in San Antonio. His proven leadership in both the public and private sectors and his deep knowledge of Texas’ construction market make him the perfect fit to lead our efforts in the region.”

A graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Civil Engineering, Todd has spent most of his career in the construction industry, with extensive experience in the public and private sectors. Most recently, Todd served as Vice President of Operations for Austin Bridge & Road in North Texas, leading a wide range of projects, including highway construction, airports, railroads, and ports. He has a specialized focus on large bridge structures, including notable work on the President George Bush Turnpike across Lake Ray Hubbard and the interchange with Interstate 30 in Dallas, Texas.

The award was announced at the 2025 Construction Working Minds Summit, held February 25-27 in Arlington, Texas, and presented to JFC’s Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Operations Manager, Asma Bayunus, who spearheads the company’s mental health initiatives. Asma is responsible for implementing critical programs such as Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Prevention, and the innovative MindSaver Post-CPR Training Program, which is the first of its kind in the industry.

One of the standout events organized by the WLC was “The Sky is the Limit: WLC La Nube Event”, held at the newly completed La Nube Discovery Center, a landmark project for Jordan Foster. The event allowed the women of Jordan Foster to tour this state-of-the-art facility and learn about the incredible women who played pivotal roles in bringing the project to life. It also served as a moment to recognize the Jordan Foster women who contributed to the success of La Nube, celebrating their hard work and dedication.

Yessica Sweeney joined JFC six years ago and is currently a Quality Control Manager on the Elate at Bent Tree multifamily project.

Born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, with an entrepreneurial spirit, Yessica Sweeney started her lawn mowing service in North Richland Hills, Texas, by the age of 11. Yessica’s can-do attitude was a blessing to her family at a time when money was tight, and her dad was in Florida working in construction, helping rebuild after a hurricane.

Yessica spent her summers and school breaks on construction sites with her dad, Jesus Lerma, a roofer and carpenter. Yessica taught herself to speak English in the third grade by listening carefully to pick it up as quickly as possible. Her English ability came in handy, as she soon became a translator for her dad and other members of his crew. Little did she know back then the impact the construction industry would have on her life.

After studying business management in college, Yessica pursued several entrepreneurial businesses, including managing a biker bar named Big Slicks and working in Motorclothes for Harley Davidson but found that not to be a good fit.

A career in construction meant working only one job to make ends meet.

One day she ran into an old customer from the bar who suggested she apply for a job in construction. The interviewer asked so many questions that she knew nothing about, but Yessica remained confident and true to herself. After a month had passed without hearing from the construction company, Yessica pursued other opportunities in healthcare. The pay was low and would require her to work two jobs to make ends meet, and she was about to accept the position when the phone rang. Southernland Construction offered her a project engineer position! For a single mother, the construction salary was life-changing. Yessica no longer had to consider working two jobs to make ends meet.

Yessica’s first project was an $180 million high-rise. Yet when the project was completed, she was laid off. She worried about the future and how she would remain financially independent. Then, out of the clear blue sky, Yessica received a notice on LinkedIn from a recruiter that Jordan Foster Construction wanted to interview her for a position. “I couldn’t believe someone was calling me to schedule an interview!

I met Sean Boyd in the Dallas office, and he made me an offer, and I have been here ever since”, Yessica says.

JFC team members are supported and challenged by the best.

“At Jordan Foster, I have the full support of everyone on my team. The leadership structure is open, and I am comfortable discussing any challenges with everyone in management. Our VP of Multifamily, Jeff Hill, checks in with me often, and I hear directly from our President, Roy Raines.” Yessica continues, “I am supported and challenged here in my work. It can be tricky navigating owner expectations sometimes, as they may not be used to seeing a Hispanic female running a project. When faced with those situations, I always remember that I don’t know what others are going through, so I give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Our management team steps in and has my back if it is unresolved. I approach each situation with kindness and respect. I am proud of my great relationships with our trade partners. I treat everyone the way I want my dad to be treated on a construction site. I communicate directly with our workforce because they are the ones that know the most about what needs to be done each day. I help them, and they help me.”

Speaking about her mentor at Jordan Foster, Yessica comments, “Our General Superintendent, Trevor Bartlett, has been in the business for years and is my constant advisor. He takes the time to consciously teach me how to build the job so that I can learn the right way and lead myself the next time. I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn from the best. My goal is to one day be like him.”

Now is the time for women in construction.

Yessica advises other women to consider joining the construction industry: “Find your passion and explore all the industry’s opportunities. There are many paths and ways your career can take off. Many women are afraid to join the industry because it has always been male-dominated. But if you want a well-paying job with a bright future, NOW IS YOUR TIME! I’m encouraged for the future because I see more women in the trades with every project I work on. Currently, on our Rockwall project, our mason painting crew is all female.”

The team at Jordan Foster has each other’s back.

Often, moms think they can’t work in construction, but when Yessica accepted the position at Jordan Foster on day one, she found out she was pregnant. “I went into the PM’s office and started to cry. He asked, ‘Did someone hurt you’ I replied, “I don’t know if you will fire me! But I am pregnant!” He replied, “Congratulations! When are you due?” Unfortunately, Yessica had a difficult pregnancy that required bed rest. However, the team created opportunities for her to work from home during the pregnancy and the pandemic. As a result, Yessica’s daughter, Penelope, is now three years old and part of Yessica’s JFC leadership journey.

Yessica concludes, “Having a family and raising kids while working on a construction project is not easy, but I have a support system at home and work. My mother is very involved and helps me with my kids, and my husband and I contribute to raising our family. Sometimes it can be stressful, but we make it work. JFC’s culture is one where I can be honest and ask for what I need regarding my family. The team has each other’s back.”
